Thermal Imaging Inspection
Thermal imaging uses infrared technology to identify temperature patterns and anomalies that aren't visible to the naked eye. These patterns can provide valuable clues about potential moisture concerns, insulation deficiencies, air leakage, HVAC performance, and other conditions that may warrant further investigation.

Limitations

Thermal imaging is non-invasive and cannot see through walls or other solid materials

Infrared images display surface-temperature differences, not the condition inside an assembly

Thermal anomalies do not independently confirm moisture, mold, missing insulation, electrical defects, or other concealed conditions

Environmental conditions can affect thermal patterns and image interpretation

Moisture meters or other evaluation methods may be used to investigate thermal anomalies when appropriate

Findings reflect conditions observed at the time of the assessment
What Thermal Imaging Can—and Can't—Tell Us
A thermal camera doesn't see through walls. It shows differences in surface temperature.
When an unusual pattern is identified, its location, shape, surrounding conditions, and other available evidence are considered to determine whether additional investigation may be appropriate. Thermal imaging is most valuable when used as another diagnostic tool—not as a standalone diagnosis.
